Planning Around Credentialing Timelines You Do Not Control

Payer approval timelines vary widely. Building your onboarding plan around tracking and escalation is more realistic than promising a start date.

Credentialing is one of the few revenue cycle functions where the calendar belongs to someone else. Applications are complete or incomplete on your side, but determinations happen on payer schedules.

Build a status tracker before you build a forecast

A per-provider, per-payer status view — submitted, in review, additional information requested, approved — makes it possible to communicate honestly with providers about what they can bill and when.

  • Capture submission dates and confirmation references
  • Log every payer contact with date and outcome
  • Track revalidation and expirable dates well in advance
  • Escalate on a defined cadence rather than waiting passively
